The SLCL Convocation ceremony will take place in Foellinger Auditorium beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019.

Doors to Foellinger Auditorium will open at 3:30 p.m. Seating is open, although the middle two sections of the auditorium towards the stage will be reserved for graduates. Faculty will be seated on the stage.

Otherwise, seating is open. There is a balcony in Foellinger Auditorium for additional seating. If family members or guests require special seating or assistance, please email Foellinger Auditorium Manager Greg Burdette at least two weeks prior to the ceremony: gburd@illinois.edu.

Graduates will be instructed to pick up tickets in the Foreign Languages Building on April 29-30, and May 1, at which time they will also fill out Reader Cards, which are used to get them lined up on graduation day. At this time graduates are restricted to getting a maximum of 5 tickets. Beginning May 2, graduates will be able to pick up additional tickets on a first-come, first-served basis.

The convocation will begin with a procession from Lincoln Hall of faculty and graduating students in academic regalia. The entire ceremony usually takes about one hour.

A reception will follow the ceremony. Depending on the weather, it will be held either on the south lawn of the Quad, immediately north of Foellinger Auditorium, or on the first floor of the Foreign Languages Building, which is situated to the east of Foellinger Auditorium.

Students who plan on having all degree requirements completed and will graduate in May 2019 should have added themselves to the May degree conferral list--"Pending Degree List"--via Student Self Service. By March of 2019, however, they can no longer use Student Self Service, and instead must have this done by a Records Officer in the LAS Student Academic Affairs Office, 2002 Lincoln Hall. Office hours: M, TU, Th, F: 8:30 a.m. to 4:40 p.m.; Wed., 10 a.m. to 4:40 p.m.

For information about campuswide Commencement, which takes place in Memorial Stadium at 9:30 a.m., on Saturday, May 11, visit: http://commencement.illinois.edu/

This year's SLCL Convocation speaker will be Harriet Murav, Professor of Slavic Languages and Literatures.
