"Monitoring, Predicting, and Projecting Drought in the Midwest: Merging Climate Science and Services"
Drought is perhaps the most complex weather hazard because it integrates many systems at highly variable timescales. It is no wonder, then, that there exist numerous methods, thresholds, and techniques to monitor and predict drought and its impacts, even only within a region like the Midwest US. I'll discuss the state of drought science, the nuances of drought response to climate change, and the importance of interdisciplinary research, partnerships, and stakeholder engagement for effectively mitigating drought impacts.
