The Road Less Traveled: Reflections (and Refractions?) Two Decades after UIUC-ATMS

Dr. Avilés will reminisce about her time at the department, talk about her career path, and provide advice for students seeking to follow their own. She will talk about how she went from her Ph.D. dissertation work on African easterly waves to her current focus on interdisciplinary connections of atmospheric phenomena, and she will share some fun examples from her current work on the science and history of atmospheric optics.
