Examining Precipitation Over Mountains Across Spatial Scales
Orographic precipitation refers to precipitation generated or modified through the interaction of moist airflow with topography. Cloud microphysical processes describe the formation and interaction of liquid and ice particles within a cloud, and their feedback on the atmosphere. Together, these topics have consumed my existence for the past 10 years. In this presentation, I will present 1) results of using statistical methods to understand the multivariate interaction between upstream environmental conditions and microphysics and 2) preliminary results of my current research connecting large-scale wind regimes to surface precipitation patterns in an inter-mountain valley.
