What do researchers do when the data they need to analyze is too big to download and/or analyze on their own laptops or workstations? They must take the analyses to the data. Genomics has been at the forefront of this trend, with ever-growing data driven by more efficient sequencing technologies. But the principles and tools underlying computational genomics apply more broadly, benefitting scientific reproducibility, data security, co-analysis of multiple datasets, and collaboration.

Join us in this session called Data Gravity and Genomics on Wednesday, November 11 from 12-1pm to understand the principles of data gravity and see how they've been applied in some of the world's largest biomedical research studies.

Larry Brody (NIH/NHGRI) will speak about how DNA and RNA are the ultimate information and computing molecules of biology. We will discuss how biomedical research is generating data to characterize everything inside and outside of our bodies that can influence health and disease.

Shimon Rura (Verily) will describe the research infrastructure of All of Us, a longitudinal research study funded by NIH to improve the ability to prevent and treat disease, and the Terra platform, a cloud-native research environment built in collaboration between the Broad Institute and Verily.

Lawrence Brody, Ph.D.
Director, Division of Genomics and Society
Senior Investigator, Social and Behavioral Research Branch
Head, Genetics and Environment Interaction Section
National Human Genome Research Institute
National Institutes of Health

Shimon Rura
Product Manager, All of Us Researcher Workbench and Terra
