CUSO’s 60th-anniversary season begins with some of the most vibrant music ever written, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. Dramatic and fateful, amorous and delightful, few works leave an audience more spellbound. Music lovers from far and wide won’t want to miss the University of Illinois Oratorio Society and the Apollo Chorus of Chicago combining to form a choir of 150 singers. In celebration of the 60th anniversary, CUSO will open the concert with a work the orchestra performed for the very first season concert, the Suite drawn from The Firebird, the stunning ballet in which Stravinsky announced his genius to the world.
