Abstract: Dr. Dobbs will give an introduction to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the roles it plays in support of US national security.  He will give an overview of the NGA Research Directorate and brief description of the offices and divisions that comprise the range of research areas of NGA Research. Ample time will be reserved for answering questions from attendees related to career paths and research opportunities. 

Bio:  Dr. Kevin Dobbs is the Foundation Pod Lead at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), Research directorate, Foundational GOINT Office.  As Pod Lead he manages a team of research scientists focused on developing novel capabilities to support the NGA GEOINT mission. For over two decades Dr. Dobbs has been part of multidisciplinary and multi-institutional research teams across academia, state, and federal governments.  His work has spanned a range of remote sensing and geospatial analysis applications areas, including land use / land cover mapping, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), hydrologic and hydrodynamic modeling, data visualization, remote sensing and geospatial data support for disasters, and teaching graduate level courses in remote sensing and related topics.  Previous to his work at NGA he held an appointment at the US Department of State in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research working with an interdisciplinary team within the Office of the Geographer and Global Issues.   As part of the Humanitarian Information Unit (HIU) he engaged in interagency collaborations with the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA), the American Red Cross, the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC), the World Bank, and others focused on complex humanitarian crises.
