Abstract:
This presentation focuses on strategies for guiding student learning in courses. To support the how, students and course staff must first consider together who we are, what we want to accomplish, and why it’s worth accomplishing. With that foundation, we can work together with a clearer understanding of the role of each aspect of the course in reaching our goals. In this presentation, general strategies of student engagement, motivation, and support are discussed. Further aspects of course design for student learning are considered in the context of a data mining course, including specific topics, materials, and assessments.
