The School of Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is offering a unique learning opportunity in the form of the Intensive Foreign Language Instruction Program (IFLIP) for Winter 2019-20.
Courses are held daily for two weeks (except Saturday and Sunday), from Monday, Jan. 6, through Friday, Jan. 17, for three hours a day. They are taught by advanced graduate students or faculty at Illinois.
Courses focus on conversational skills, travel preparation and language survival skills. There is minimal homework, no attendance policy, and no academic credit. Each class must have a minimum of 10 participants or it is cancelled.
Participants can place themselves based on the following guidelines:
- Elementary: For participants with very little or no prior experience with the language; you will learn how to handle basic communicative tasks such as introducing yourself, asking and answering simple questions, etc.
- Intermediate: For participants who have some knowledge of the language, are able to express some basic information (greetings, introductions, likes and dislikes, work, daily routine, etc.), and would like to increase their ability to converse informally in the language.
- Advanced: For participants who are able to communicate with ease about familiar topics related to their daily life, and who would like to improve their fluency and confidence to handle both informal and formal exchanges on a variety of topics.
Course offerings with fewer than 10 participants as of that date are subject to cancellation. Registration fees will be refunded in full for classes cancelled due to limited enrollment. A $25 late cancellation fee will be deducted if cancelled after Sunday, Dec. 1. There will be no refund if cancellation takes place after Monday, Jan. 6.
