Visiting Max Kade Professor, Marita Meyer, will present “Ein Bericht für eine Akademie“ von Franz Kafka als kritischer Kommentar zum Schreiben über Natur”.
For a long time, the animals in Franz Kafka's stories, be it the beetle, the mouse or the monkey, were only read symbolically. With the establishment of Animal Studies, especially Cultural and Literary Animal Studies, attention to the biological side of animal figures has increased. In Kafka research, this change of perspective comes close to a paradigm shift. In this context, the lecture presents a new interpretation of the well-known "monkey story".
(Lecture will be in German)
