Karla Stoedter is a true nuclear professional with more than 30 years of experience. She currently serves as an Engineering Branch Chief in the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Region III Office in Lisle, Illinois. In this role, Ms. Stoedter and her staff verify nuclear power plants located in the upper Midwest operate safety and remain ready to respond to potential emergency conditions. Ms. Stoedter has also served as a Branch Chief in Region III’s Division of Reactor Projects where she and her staff were responsible for implementing the NRC’s inspection program at the Clinton, Duane Arnold, LaSalle and Quad Cities nuclear power plants.Prior to becoming a branch chief, Ms. Stoedter spent more than 14 years as a Senior Resident Inspector at the Quad Cities and Prairie Island nuclear plants.  As a senior resident inspector, Karla led the NRC’s efforts to monitor the day-to-day safety performance at each plant while also serving as the Agency’s first responder during plant emergencies. While at Quad Cities, Ms. Stoedter was presented with a variety of unique and challenging circumstances stemming from the licensee increasing the power produced by each of the nuclear reactors by approximately 20 percent. Under Ms. Stoedter’s leadership, the Quad Cities Resident Inspector Office provided their NRC counterparts with first of a kind data which resulted in the NRC changing the review process used to approve large increases in reactor power.   Karla served an additional five years as the Resident Inspector at Clinton Power Station.  As part of the Clinton resident inspector team, Ms. Stoedter monitored the licensee’s performance improvement efforts during a 2.5 year plant shut down and played in important role in ensuring the plant was safe to restart.Prior to becoming a resident inspector, Ms. Stoedter held various roles within the NRC’s Region III Office and the NRC’s Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation located in Rockville, Maryland.Ms. Stoedter obtained a bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Illinois – Urbana/Champaign and a post-graduate degree in business administration from Eastern Illinois University.   She was awarded the NRC Meritorious Service Award in June 2010 for her work at Prairie Island and Quad Cities. She and her husband, Gary, live in the western Chicago suburbs and have three children. Outside of work Karla volunteers as a track and swimming coach for the Kendall County Special Olympics. She also enjoys reading, gardening and spending time with her family.

Muzammil Siddiqui is a Reactor Inspector at the NRC Region III Office in Lisle, IL. He recently graduated in 2020 with a BS in Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While at UIUC he was an undergraduate researcher at the Neutron Measurement Lab, and an undergraduate researcher for the Illinois Scholars Undergraduate Research Program. He joined the NRC in 2020, through the Nuclear Regulator Apprenticeship Network (NRAN) Program. Throughout the NRAN training program he completed several apprenticeships in different NRC offices, where he gained both technical and regulatory experience. During the program he completed a rotation as a Reliability and Risk Analyst in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation and as a Security Risk Analyst in the Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response. He finished the NRAN program last year and started his new NRC journey as a Reactor Inspector in the Region III Division of Operating Reactor Safety.
