Title: Feminicide and Feminist Performance

Description:

While in the larger context Mexico does not have the worst record of feminicide by numbers or by rate in Latin America or the world, much international attention has spotlighted the US-Mexico border city of Ciudad Juárez--and rightly so, for the terrible history of mutilation and slaughter of young women since the 1990s. This presentation discusses a few examples of social justice oriented performances that speak to thegender violence in that city as a tragic emblem of a larger global problem.
