Abstract:
Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) technology is rapidly transforming the aerospace landscape, with applications spanning civil industries like transportation, entertainment, and agriculture, as well as critical military operations such as surveillance, strikes, and logistics. Despite its growth, VTOL technology faces major challenges, including complex fluid-structure interactions and uncontrolled noise levels. To overcome these challenges in low-Mach flights, this seminar will present the RAA Lab’s research efforts to address these questions. How can we safely land VTOL aircraft onto naval ships during the ocean storm conditions? How can a micro wing generate excessively loud noise, challenging the conventional aeroacoustics? How can we extend the conventional aeroacoustic theories to multi-phase flows?

Bio:
Sicheng Kevin Li is an Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Oklahoma State University, specializing in unsteady aerodynamics and aeroacoustics. Dr. Li received his BS, MS, and PhD degrees from the University of California, Davis, where he developed the widely recognized UCD-QuietFly aeroacoustics solver. Dr. Li’s current research at the Rotorcraft Aerodynamics and Aeroacosutics Lab includes shipboard helicopter operations, dynamic stall noise, blade wake interactions, and water-entry noise.
