Over the past two and a half years I have been splitting my time between advising my graduate students at the University of Pittsburgh and directing computational chemistry research at Creyon Bio, a San Diego startup that was founded by Swagatam Mukhopadhyay (Illinois PhD with Paul Goldbart). I will begin my talk with a brief introduction to the biology of gene expression and how we modulate it to treat rare diseases using “informational” drugs made from derivatives of DNA molecules. For the bulk of my talk I will describe my work on machine learning electronic structure and recasting force-field molecular dynamics as an effective theory.
