Sleep has long been known to help consolidate memories, but new research is resolving how sleep poses a unique time to divorce emotionality from semantic memories/knowledge and allows us to recognize an episode as a familiar past history rather than continuing to store it in novel circuits. Dr. Poe will present evidence and conceptual models built on research for how we put our emotions to rest during sleep.
