ECE and Off-Highway Vehicle Electrification at John Deere
ABSTRACT
This tech talk presented by Deere & Co. is targeted at enhancing the awareness of Illinois faculty and students of Deere’s global reach in agriculture, construction, and technology in the off-highway market. A member from the Enterprise Electric Drives Engineering Services (E-EDES) group at Deere will provide an overview on how electric drives are enhancing products that help their customers feed the world and create much needed infrastructure globally. They will also review employment opportunities at Deere in electrification and beyond. The seminar is open to all ECE, MechSE, CS, ABE, MatSE and ISE students and faculty.
SPEAKERS
Matt Biederwolf is an Electric Drive Systems Engineer as a part of E-EDES at John Deere, delivering electric drive systems to the Global Tractor Platform. He focuses on innovative R&D projects, supporting the Tractor Advanced Engineering teams in Waterloo, Iowa and Mannheim, Germany. Projects include high power 480V AC traction applications – working with emachines, inverters, harnesses, connectors and software/controls. Matt previously worked as a Drivetrain Product Engineer on the 8R Transmission team, where he supported new product and CI. He also has background in controls (both mechanical and electrical), power electronics, software development/testing, and Systems Engineering. Matt was an Intern as well as an EDP (Engineering Development Program) before beginning his role in Drivetrain. Matt is a 2014 MechSE graduate and is working on his master’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Systems Engineering from Michigan Tech. Matt also recently completed a Systems Engineering Certificate from the California Institute of Technology.
