Panelists

Tripta Holtz (BS, '10)
Sr. Fragrance Evaluator, L'Oréal USA

Tripta Holtz graduated from Illinois in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in specialized chemistry and minors in food science and business. She was an undergraduate research assistant in Martin Gruebele’s lab and continued her education in the European Fragrance and Cosmetics Master’s program in France where she also got her Master’s in business management. She worked in Dubai as a fragrance evaluator at Givaudan, a leading fragrance and flavor supplier before joining L’Oréal USA in 2016. She’s now a senior fragrance evaluator at L’Oréal based in New York City and works closely with the Ralph Lauren Global Marketing team and has developed and launched winning fragrances. 

 

Yantao Hughes (PhD, '03, van der Donk)
Master Black Belt, Ascend Performance Materials

Yantao Hughes graduated from Illinois with a PhD in 2003. She also has an MBA from the University of Southern Indiana and a bachelor’s in chemistry and minor in law from Peking University. She is a technology master black belt at Ascend Performance Materials, where she is responsible for management of the technology portfolio and stage gate process at Ascend. Prior to Ascend, Yantao served as the director of innovation at Berry Global. She was honored with a “Women Breaking the Mold” award by Plastics News in 2018. She also spent 14 years at SABIC/GE Plastics where she held management positions in technology and product marketing.

Mark Pytosh (BS, '86)
President and CEO, CVR Partners, LP; Executive Vice President - Corporate Services, CVR Energy, Inc.

Mark Pytosh graduated with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Illinois in 1986, and he is currently chief executive officer and president at CVR Partners, LP, as well as executive vice president of Corporate Services for CVR Energy and CVR Refining, LP. Prior to joining CVR Partners, he held various other executive positions with renewable energy and waste industry companies, and prior to that, he spent 18 years in the investment banking industry, working with a broad range of clients in the environmental services, automotive, construction equipment, and other industrial sectors.

Olaseni Sode (PhD, '12, Hirata)
Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Cal State LA

Olaseni Sode graduated with his PhD from Illinois in 2012 and went on to postdoctoral research at The University of Chicago, studying the chemical processes in biomolecular systems. In 2015, he began his independent career as an assistant professor at The University of Tampa in the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics, before moving to California State University, Los Angeles in 2018. The National Science Foundation and the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund have funded his research projects. His long-term research goals focus on the development of model potentials exploiting fragmentation quantum chemistry methods to address condensed phase molecular systems at the highest level of electronic structure theory.
