TSS Seminar: Marco Carvalho, "An Agent-based Command and Control Framework for Cyber Operations”

In this talk, I will introduce an Agent-based Command and Control Framework for the coordination of sensors and defenses in Cyber Operation Environments.  The proposed Command and Control Infrastructure is designed and implemented as a collection of software agents running on top of a specialized policy-based agent framework. The proposed approach has been implemented and tested in large-scale simulations, emulated enterprise environments, and operational settings. After a brief description of our motivations and goals, I will introduce the concept and design of the proposed framework and its supporting services. I will follow the discussion with an illustrative application scenario and conclusions.  


Marco Carvalho is an Associate Professor in Computer Science at the Florida Institute of Technology and a Research Scientist at the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition. At Florida Tech, Dr. Carvalho is the Executive Director of the Harris Institute for Assured Information, a DHS/NSA-Certified National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Research. Dr. Carvalho holds a B.S. and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in dynamic systems and control, a M.S. in Computer Science from the University of West Florida and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Tulane University, with a specialization in Machine Learning and Data Mining. Dr. Carvalho currently leads several research efforts in the areas of cyber security, moving target defense, and critical infrastructure protection.
