The narrative of the Abayudaya tribe in eastern Uganda tells the story of Uganda's interaction with the western world dating back to British initial steps in the area. This talk will give an overview about how the formation of the tribe by Semei Kakungulu is a direct result of Kakungulu's contact with the British, while maintaining his own unique identity. Similarly, we will discuss the Abadyudaya's contact with Israel and American Jewry and how these relationships affect the local identity.
