Join us in welcoming back Dr. Ehsan Bokhari, UIUC Psychology PhD 2014 and current assistant general manager of the Chicago Cubs, who will be giving a talk in our Social Psychology brown bag seminar.
The Holtzman is Greater than the Sum of His WAR: A Sabermetric Parable
This talk is meant to be a story that I’ve split into three parts. The first part is a biography of my career; I detail my journey which takes me through the campus at Urbana-Champaign and ultimately finds me back in the state of Illinois as Assistant General Manager of the Chicago Cubs. The second part is a detailed demonstration of how baseball players are evaluated in today’s data-driven world. I’ll discuss the technology we use and give a high-level approach to how a player is valued based off performance. In the third and final part, I’ll wrap up with an attempt to wax poetic about my learnings from my education and my time applying that knowledge to decision making under uncertainty in the game of baseball.
Expected Time: 50 minutes + time for Q&A
