Event Description

This session will address the dos and don'ts of building a professional image. Topics will include using various resources to highlight your brand, auditing your web presence (personal websites and social media), and developing communication and collaboration skills. How should you conduct yourself in the workplace? What image should you project to managers and colleagues? How should you navigate difficult conversations while being respectful of cultural differences? Listen as our panelists discuss these common work-related concerns and more.

Dr. Ranjitha Kumar
Associate Professor

Ranjitha Kumar

Dr. Ranjitha Kumar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and (by courtesy) the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UIUC. She leads the Data Driven Design Group, researching machine learning for effective user experiences and effective user experiences for machine learning. She also serves as the Chief Research Scientist at UserTesting, where she and her team are building solutions for bridging quantitative and qualitative experience testing. Dr. Kumar received her B.S. and Ph.D. from the Department of Computer Science at Stanford University. Based on her dissertation work, she co-founded Apropose, Inc., a data-driven design startup backed by Andreessen Horowitz and New Enterprise Associates.

Ross Erlebacher

Ross Erlebacher

Ross Erlebacher is an Assistant Vice President with Cognizant - a global technology services provider.  He has spent most of his professional career in management and technology consulting, having also worked for Accenture, Deloitte, and a startup consultancy.  Ross' work focuses on helping healthcare clients on transformational engagements to help them identify and solve their most critical business problems using technology as an enabler.

Ross holds BS and MS degrees in computer science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, as well as an MBA from The Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.  He serves on a variety of not-for-profit boards and is an active Illinois alum.  Ross has called the Chicagoland area home for his entire life.  His wife, Susie, is also an Illinois alum.
