Developing your Professional Persona

This session will address the dos and don'ts of building a professional image. Topics will include web presence (personal pages and social media), professional communication skills (email, etc.) and behavior. How to be a good collaborator and citizen, polite and respectful treatment of cultural differences, how to be an advocate or ally when you observe disrespectful behavior.

Professors Saugata Ghose, Ranjitha Kumar, and Ling Ren will be this session's panelists.

Saugata

Saugata Ghose is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.  He holds M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Cornell University, and dual B.S. degrees from Binghamton University.  He has received the best paper award from DFRWS-EU in 2017, is a finalist for the memorable paper award at NVMW 2022, and won a Wimmer Faculty Fellow during his time at Carnegie Mellon University. His current research interests include data-oriented computer architectures and systems, new interfaces between systems software and hardware, energy-efficient memory and storage, and architectures for emerging platforms and domains.  For more information, please visit his website at https://ghose.cs.illinois.edu/

Ranjitha

Ling

Ling Ren is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to joining the University of Illinois, he obtained his Ph.D. from MIT and worked at VMware Research. His research interests include security, cryptography, and distributed algorithms. He has won several awards including NSF CAREER Award, Google privacy research award, VMware Early Career Faculty Grant, Top Picks in Hardware and Embedded Security, and Best Paper Runner-Up and Best Student Paper at CCS.
