For Illinois Computer Science PhD Students:
The Google PhD Student Fellowship Program was created to recognize outstanding graduate students doing exceptional work in computer science, related disciplines, or promising research areas.
20-21 Google PhD Fellowship Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria:
Eligibility requirements:
- Be a full-time doctoral student pursuing research in one of the eligible areas of research.
- Be on course to have completed all graduate coursework by the beginning of the fellowship term. For most students, this means being in the 2nd year of graduate study at the time of application and in the 3rd year of graduate study when the fellowship begins.
- Remain an active, full-time student in a PhD program during the fellowship period.
- Students that are already supported by a comparable industry award are not eligible.
- Students of any citizenship/nationality are eligible.
- Note: A maximum of only two nominations from a given university may be for students who do NOT self-identify as a member of a group traditionally underrepresented in the field of computing (see second paragraph above).
Evaluation Criteria: Applications are evaluated on the strength of the research proposal, research impact, student academic achievements, and leadership potential. Research proposals are evaluated for innovative concepts that are relevant to Google’s research areas, as well as aspects of robustness and potential impact to the field. Proposals should include the direction and any plans of where your work is going in addition to a comprehensive description of the research you are pursuing.
