Hosted by BRIC (the Illinois Computer Science Department’s Big Research Initiatives
Committee), will provide a panel session for faculty interested in competing for major grants,
involving multiple faculty and potentially multiple universities and institutions. These efforts
require substantial planning and coordination, and this session will help you gain the
knowledge necessary to succeed in these efforts. Our panelists have a wide range of experience
in proposal development and experience as PIs on large proposals.

Topics Covered
- how to work with proposal development specialists from across campus
- the importance of planning ahead
- selecting team members
- creating an effective management plan
- coordinating proposal writing
- special challenges in multi-institutional efforts
- getting support from the university
- effective and meaningful broader impacts (and evaluation)

We will also discuss the importance and benefits of getting early feedback from multiple
outsider readers, and the benefits of different types of proposal review, including "blue team",
"pink team", and "red team" review.
