Dr. Joseph Comberiate will provide an introduction to Johns Hopkins University - Applied Physics Lab (APL) and our extensive space weather research efforts. Of particular interest is the effect of ionospheric irregularities on radio wave propagation. APL has developed new applications for data assimilation modeling using the Ionospheric Data Assimilation Four Dimensional (IDA4D) model, which combines an ionospheric physics model with a Kalman Filter. APL also has a wide variety of ionospheric datasets, including space-based UV imagers, hosted payloads on commercial systems, and ground-based observation networks. These datasets will be discussed as well as their applications for modeling ionospheric effects in conjunction with IDA4D.
