Errors, falsification, and fraud all occur in science and scholarship. Retraction is a mechanism for alerting readers to unreliable scholarly publications that should not be used. However, some retracted articles continue to be treated by researchers and the public as valid content. Why?

Professor Schneider will draw on the year-long stakeholder consultation and citation analysis from her Alfred P. Sloan Foundation project, “Reducing the Inadvertent Citation of Retraced Papers,” and a new cycle of standards development work in progress through the NISO CORREC Working Group in order to offer suggestions for readers, authors, journal editors, and publishers.
