Title: “Long-range toric code: finite-temperature topological order in two dimensions”

Abstract: We introduce toric code models with long-range loop interactions, which confine anyon excitations while preserving the topologically ordered ground state. Consequently, the topological order survives thermal fluctuations up to a critical temperature. We provide evidence for a thermodynamic transition between a low-temperature topological phase and high-temperature trivial phase. The resulting low-temperature topological phase acts as a passive quantum memory, storing quantum information for a time that diverges with system size.
