An active effort on campus; the Kwiat Quantum Information group probes the ultimate lower limit of human perception. Previous studies on the matter, alongside the human experience, remained in the classical realm. We harness quantum entanglement (via a photon heralding optical setup) to test the retinal photoreceptor cells of our volunteers. Coupled with a psychological forced-choice experiment, we seek to ascertain whether the ‘observer’ can serve as single-photon detector. This unveils a world of quantum oddities (superposition, wavefunction collapse, entanglement etc.) we can expose to the human consciousness, such that we may understand ourselves like never before.
