Take advantage of this opportunity to get FREE patent or trademark assistance! If you hire your own attorney, patent applications typically cost $10,000-12,000, and trademark assistance costs $2,000-2,500.

The IP Clinic includes two Tracks; the Patent Track and the Trademark Track. In the Patent Track, law students work with student entrepreneurs and write a full patent application with regard to their innovation. The Trademark Track allows law students to advise selected companies on trademark matters and prepare trademark applications. Companies selected for the Patent Track will have a preference for participation in the Trademark Track.

Joseph Barich is a licensed patent attorney and is also an Adjunct Professor in the College of Law where he has taught Patent Prosecution since the Spring semester of 2005. He partnered with TEC to launch the Patent Clinic during the spring of 2008. The collaboration and partnership is one that TEC continues to nurture and develop each academic year. As of 2018, the IP Clinic has drafted 50 patent applications and assisted 200 companies with trademark registration. Because a patent application typically costs about $10,000-$12,000 to have drafted, and trademark assistance typically costs about $2,000-$2,500, the IP Clinic has contributed around $1 million in services to the University community.
