TITLE: "Impregnation of Superconducting Magnets: A Review"
ABSTRACT: Construction of superconducting magnets requires the impregnation of a coil in a liquid medium, such as epoxy, which is subsequently solidified. The impregnation provides mechanical integrity to the magnet and facilitates heat transfer. The material selection for the impregnation requires careful consideration of the material’s properties and the performance requirements in order to obtain optimal magnet operations. We present a detailed explanation of considerations in the impregnation material selection, together with a comprehensive review of the impregnation materials and their characteristics reported in the literature. We compare these materials and discuss their suitability in various applications.
