Trapped atomic ions are a versatile platform for quantum computation and simulation because of the high-fidelity state preparation and measurement as well as single- and two-qubit gates. In order to overcome the difficulties in typical room-temperature UHV ion trap setups, here we perform a high-stability cryogenic trapped-ion platform which offers lower heating rate and collision energies [1]. With a high-performance platform, we present our theory and experimental work on designing a new type of two-qubit gate pulses to make it more robust to errors [2]. In addition, we demonstrate a method to determine the full density matrix of an arbitrary high-dimension bosonic state and experimentally verified it using motional modes in a long ion chain [3].
