It is no secret that the tech industry lacks diversity in its workforce and is considered an environment that can be cold and closed-off. Especially considering conversations and actions surrounding essential social individual identities such as gender, race, ethnicity, and ability, to name a few. As we work toward breaking down these barriers, we have to think and reflect on our roles, power, and actions to help or harm these efforts.

Women@NCSA invites and encourages you to join us next Wednesday from 2-3 p.m. on Zoom for our October event featuring Illinois Chemistry Assistant Director of Instructional Technology Candice Solomon-Strutz in a presentation titled How to Be an Ally in Tech.

We seek to shine a light on challenges that Women, Black, Indigenous, and Brown people experience in tech. Offer valuable advice and information on how to be an ally and advocate, not a savior. People in these communities do not need extra help, but the current environment in which they work does. We’re hopeful that more people will show up as allies in the workplace. Will you take a stand? Will you leverage your voices and your power to make a real change to improve diversity? Are you committed to forging a more inclusive and equal environment in tech? Our workplaces desperately need it. And we’re here to help show you the way. Becoming an ally is a journey.
