Ed Schipp was an engineering co-op student and completed his Industrial Engineering degree in January 1983. Ed began his career as a Staff Engineer for a sewing machine manufacturing company in Chicago. With the advice of his supervisor and mentor, Ed applied and was accepted into the MBA evening program at the University of Chicago. Ed was involved in using computers to perform equipment financing analyses, standard product cost calculations, and manufacturing equipment capacity studies. Within a few years Ed transitioned into the information technology field where he still works today.

In 1988 Ed began a fifteen-year career at Abbott Laboratories. Ed started as a Business Analyst supporting initiatives for the Cost Accounting and Engineering departments. After rising through multiple roles, Ed’s last position was Director of Manufacturing and Quality Systems for the Hospital Products Divisions with responsibility for the system strategy, implementation, and support of IT systems at 15 domestic and international manufacturing sites.

In 2004 Abbott spun out the Hospital Products Division to form Hospira. Ed held various IT management roles and as a result of an internal IT reorganization became a senior individual contributor leading IT Strategy and program oversight. In 2009 Ed was laid off from Hospira with the economic downtown.

In 2011 Ed was hired as the IT Business Relationship Manager for the hospital injectable division of Mylan Pharmaceuticals in the role of senior strategy advisor and program manager for all technology initiatives for the division, coordinating with Mylan Corporate IT resources. In 2013 Mylan decided to close the Chicago office and Ed was again in transition.

In 2014 Ed was hired as the head of IT for Sagent Pharmaceuticals, a $350 million injectable pharma company, where he is responsible for strategy, implementation, and support for all IT activities. Over the past seven years Ed developed and executed the strategy to introduce modern enterprise systems which are now shared across corporate headquarters and two acquired sites with a third acquisition integration planned for next year.
