Beginning in October join AE on Thursdays at 4pm for a new speaker series, Illini Aero Connections, that will discuss topics relevant to aerospace engineers, but that go beyond the traditional classroom lessons. The Illini Aero Connections program aims to prepare AE students for thriving in the professional world, provide a forum for students and alumni to connect and learn from each other, and offer alumni frequent opportunities to interact with the department. Speakers include both recent and senior alumni along with industry professionals who are eager to share their expertise and experience. October 1: Entrepreneurship - Mike Miller, (BS '76) and Jenny Roderick (BS '13)
Entrepreneurs play a vital role in industry development. Hear from two AE alums about the challenges, risks and triumphs of starting an aerospace business. Mike Miller and Jenny Roderick will discuss they moved from corporate positions to starting their own business, how they raised capital and gained support, how to transition research into a start up, what their most difficult challenges were and how their experience at Illinois prepared them to meet those challenges.
