Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has a mission of strengthening the United States’ security through development and application of world-class science and technology to enhance the nation’s defense across the full spectrum of threats, reduce the global threat from terrorism and weapons of mass destruction and respond with vision, quality, integrity and technical excellence to scientific issues of national importance. LLNL has 3 main programs: National Ignition Facility, Weapons and Complex Integration and Global Security.

The Cyber and Infrastructure Resilience Program's is part of LLNL’s Global Security Directorate. It’s mission is to enhance the security and resilience of the nation’s critical infrastructure systems and networks to cyber, physical, and environmental hazards and to enable their reliable and sustainable design and operation now and into the future. The program currently focuses primarily on the lifeline infrastructure sectors— energy, water, transportation, and communications— but also is concerned with the chemical, commercial, manufacturing, dam, defense, emergency, financial, agriculture, government, health care, information, and nuclear sectors. Our customers include Department of Energy, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense and State of California and majority of our projects include strong industry participation and partnerships.

In this info session, we will start with a broad overview of LLNL, and then specifically focus on Cyber and Infrastructure Resilience Program. We will highlight our capabilities ranging from network security and software assurance to wildfire detection and mitigation and high-performance computing enhanced modeling and simulation. In addition to the exciting research and  projects we will provide insight into the Lab’s culture, advantages of working in a National Lab and we will also provide information on existing internship and full time employment opportunities.

One-on-one interviews with the LLNL team will be conducted on February 20, contact Theron Seckington to set up a time slot.

*A head count for the February 19 info session lunch is needed to ensure there is enough food, please RSVP to Theron at therons@illinois.edu.
