To celebrate the Program's 20th anniversary, Medieval Studies is proud to welcome back some of our distinguished alumni for a virtual lecture series throughout 2021-2022. For the second event in our Alumni Lecture series, we welcome Dr. des. Catherine Keane (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich). Dr. Keane's work focuses on ecclesiastical monuments in relation to agricultural and industrial facilities from the 4th to 9th centuries. The particular focus is on the dynamics between economic spaces and sacred architecture, and is organized by the type of product or industrial activity. By bringing together the fields of architecture, ceramics, numismatics, and landscape archaeology, combined with a consideration of the island’s late antique history and vitality, the role of the church and its influence before and after the 7th century Arab invasions is comprehensively presented for the first time. Join us in person on Thursday, December 2, at 5:30 pm in 319 Gregory Hall, or register for the Zoom event at https://illinois.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYrcOysrTstGNaaVOBXfnKJZ540ytHcUU3-
