The Illinois Archaeological Predictive Model (IAPM) is a GIS-based tool that builds on over a century of archaeological work in Illinois, and considers the location of known prehistoric sites, landforms, and other environmental variables. This data is analyzed using multilevel Bayesian logistic regression to predict the probability of encountering archaeological sites across the state. ISAS and other stakeholders will use the IAPM to help protect, preserve, and assess the potential impact to irreplaceable archaeological resources within the context of Illinois' need to encourage and promote sustainable development.
