Environmental archaeologists are well positioned to provide insights into how the emergence of institutions for managing resources influence the long-term sustainability of coupled socio-ecological systems. In this presentation, case studies from New Mexico and the Central Mississippi Valley are explored as examples of how interdisciplinary archaeologiocal investigations are relevant to modern concerns about climate adaptations among descendant communities and society at large.
