Physics - Careers Seminar

Abstract: In this informal talk, I’ll discuss several reasons one might consider pursuing a postdoc after graduation and offer advice on planning and executing such a transition in general. I’ll speak in particular about my own experiences moving abroad post-PhD as well as in securing funding and integrating into a new research community. Finally, I’ll relate some practical things to keep in mind before and after a move overseas.

Bio: Keith Cassidy is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Structural Bioinformatics and Computational Biochemistry Unit at the University of Oxford. His work focuses on the use of computer simulations to investigate the structure and function of large biomolecular complexes, in particular, those responsible for sensory signal processing in bacterial chemotaxis. In December 2016, Keith received his PhD in Physics from UIUC under the guidance of Professor Klaus Schulten in the Theoretical and Computational Biophysics Group. Before moving to the U.K. in October 2018, he held a postdoctoral position with Professor Zan Luthey-Schulten in the Department of Chemistry at UIUC.
