Marie-Christin Spindler, QCB Postdoc, European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), will lecture on "Quantitative in situ cryo-electron tomography of yeast"
Abstract: Cryo-electron tomography is an imaging technique that visualizes macromolecules within their native context at high resolution. In addition to determining protein structures in situ, cryoET's strength lies in its capacity to deliver contextual insights about the cellular environment in which macromolecules operate both under native conditions and upon perturbation. I will present how we use cryoET to gain insight into the structural and molecular basis underpinning the cytoplasmic liquid-to-solid phase transition in yeast resulting from nutrient stress. I will further show examples of how we obtain quantitative data from the cryo-electron tomograms to inform 4D whole cell models of yeast.
