His talk is entitled, Reading the Backstreets in Urumchi: Translation as Ethnographic Method in Northwest China. Professor Byler will discuss his experiences learning Uyghur and incorporating his language skills in his research. This series aims to provide students and faculty with space to reflect on the ways the language learning and research processes are interconnected. All are welcome to join.
