How best to engage K-12 students who are not native speakers of the primary language of instruction and integrate them into the classroom? Register for this virtual presentation by Félix Gancedo Menéndez, a biology teacher who has worked in a dual language program for six years. This presentation is part of the European Union Center's Transatlantic Educators Lecture Series, where K-12 educators from Europe and the U.S. present on salient topics in education.

Félix Gancedo Menéndez was born and raised in Asturias, northern Spain. After studying biology and realizing that scientific research was not for him, he decided to teach biology at the secondary level. He taught future X-ray technicians and nurse helpers, as well as laboratory technicians and pharmacy workers in two technical schools. He applied for a teaching position in the United States through a Spanish Ministry of Education's program for visiting teachers and started teaching 7th and 8th grade science. After four years he transferred to teaching high school. Since 2020 he has taught freshman biology in a bilingual program.
