Drawing on queer studies, Indigenous studies, writing studies, and Black feminisms, Azlan Guttenberg Smith (they/them; PhD Candidate in Writing Studies) will share five writing principles that community writing asks us to consider. The principles are drawn from Smith’s work in community-based research, including Voices, a 13-year program that partners with communities to gather, weave together, and perform lived stories to public audiences. The second half of the event will be a group discussion about whether and how these principles enliven our own writing practices.
