Abstract: With fault-tolerant quantum computing on the horizon, it becomes interesting to consider how such devices might be used to simulate the dynamics of nontrivial quantum field theories. In this talk, I will discuss ongoing work developing algorithms to perform time evolution of one such theory: PSU(N) lattice gauge theory. Algorithmically, this theory is an interesting simulation target because it contains coupled one-form and two-form gauge fields. As a physics target, PSU(N) is also interesting because it contains topologically-stable chromomagnetic monopoles without any additional field content. I will discuss how the lattice Hamiltonian for PSU(N) is obtained by gauging the one-form center symmetry of SU(N). I will then outline an approach to circuitizing the time-evolution via Trotterization, ongoing work implementing a codebase to compile PSU(3) time-evolution circuits specifically, and various physics benchmarks obtained from classical simulations on small lattices.
