The electrons in the materials around us determine a vast number of the properties we can observe with our basic senses, such as their transparency and conductivity. As such, physicists have developed many interesting techniques for determining the structure of electrons in materials. In this talk, I will talk about ARPES, a technique I worked with over the summer, and how materials with synthetic properties can be constructed using metamaterials.
