IQUIST Young Researchers Seminar

Free-Space Quantum Memory: Capturing Photons and Commercializing Quantum

Abstract: Quantum memories are an important yet elusive part of many quantum applications. There are many flavors of quantum memories out there, but most of them leave researchers and end-users unsatisfied. In this seminar, I will talk about the scientific and commercial progress I’ve made in developing a free-space quantum memory that avoids many of the issues of other approaches. I will dive deep into the fundamentals of storing light in free-space, and will discuss the commercial applications and market opportunities that have presented themselves for this technology.

Student Bio: Nathan Arnold is a 6th-year PhD student in Paul Kwiat’s research group and the founder and CEO of Photon Queue, and his academic and commercial work revolve around developing free-space quantum memories for various quantum applications.
