When you first learn thermodynamics, you study the ideal gas made up of ideal particles that don't interact. As you progress through your schooling you add more realism-- hard core repulsion, quantum statistics and so on. With each progression the phase diagram you draw gets richer. Finally, the most realistic description of a phase diagram can only be given by an actual honest to god atom. The simplest of which is Hydrogen, giving us an extremely rich phase diagram. I will be presenting a practice prelim proposal for obtaining the phase diagram of Hydrogen and calculating its equation of state. The talk will be approximately 30 minutes, so come by to ask a lot of questions!
