Josephson junctions are sandwiches of superconductors separated by a weak link and serve as the fundamental components of superconducting quantum circuits. In this talk, I will introduce the physics behind the Josephson junctions, discussing the properties that render them suitable candidates for qubits. Additionally, I will delve into my own research, which involves fabricating these junctions using shadow evaporation and exploring the possibility of supercurrent vortices, known as Josephson vortices, to house Majorana zero modes.
Bonus: Towards the end of my talk, I will also demonstrate an ingenious method (no integrations involved!) to compute the moment of inertia for 2D regular polygon objects and fractals. It is recommended to review the concepts of moment of inertia and Steiner’s parallel axis theorem beforehand, as it will enhance your understanding of the topic.
