The Department of Linguistics will host a professional workshop for graduate students in Linguistics and related fields, on Thursday, Nov. 5, from 5-7 pm (U.S. Central Time). Titled “Linguistics jobs outside of academia,” the virtual workshop will be led by graduates of the departments of Linguistics and French & Italian, and Fred Davidson, Professor Emeritus of Linguistics.

One of the participats will be Dr. Chris Stewart who received a PhD from the Illinois Department of French in 2009, in the areas of socio‐phonetics and psycholinguistics. He has held a variety of positions, including as an Assistant Professor of French Linguistics at the University of Texas‐Arlington, a voice‐engineer at Nuance Communications in Belgium, a senior data scientist at the TCS consulting company and the Narrative Wave start‐up. He is currently working for Google as an analytical linguist.
