Timbuktu Talks 2025 

Louis Brenner, Professor Emeritus of the History of Religion in Africa, SOAS, University of London. 

2 May 2025, 2 pm CST via Zoom, 


Prof. Brenner will discuss his recently published book, a study of Muslim, Christian, and endogenous religious traditions in Sub-Saharan Africa as complex, constantly evolving, and interacting social phenomena. This talk will focus on examples of Muslim thought and practice. The book's first chapter can be accessed here; reading is recommended. All welcome! Timbuktu Talks is a CAS lecture series hosted by Prof. Mauro Nobili, UIUC History Department, since 2021.
